The Merton COVID-19 Community Response Hub is a partnership between Age UK, Merton Voluntary Service Council, and Wimbledon Guild.  It was set up in March 2020 to help isolated households and those at risk from COVID-19.

Are you isolated, at risk from COVID-19 and need help with any of the following?

  • Support with shopping and basic supplies

  • Access to prescription and medication

  • Telephone befriending

  • Advice and practical help to stay active

  • Support to stay independent at home

If you, or someone you know, needs help please email or call 020 8685 2272, between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

How do I volunteer?
Volunteers will be allocated tasks to help isolated households and those at risk from COVID-19. If you would like to add your name to the volunteer waiting list please email

Note: If you feel unwell, do not volunteer to help others who are isolating. Please ensure you wash your hands regularly, especially before and after you deliver any items to a person in isolation and stay 2 meters away from the person where possible.

The latest stats from the Merton COVID-19 Community Response Hub are shown below. What amazing support their teams and volunteers have provided to the Merton communities during the pandemic!

During the COVID-19 outbreak Wimbledon Guild are supporting #Merton in numerous ways. They are contacting isolated customers & delivering essential items – giving food vouchers to those on low incomes or unable to work.

Wimbledon Guild staff and volunteers are also out and about across the borough delivering tasty, nutritious meals. On the 27th April, they partnered with Two Teaspoons UK to deliver home cooked meals to their HomeFood Café customers in return for donations to Wimbledon Guild.

If you can, please donate and help them to help others:

Dons Local Action Group Wimbledon Morrisons

Dons Location Action Group have been key in the continued provision of practical support to vulnerable Merton residents and those in need of a little extra help during the COVID-19 pandemic.  A while back we reported on their milestone achievement of enlisting 1,000 volunteers!  Since then they have continued to go from strength to strength – as of late August they work with 1500 volunteers, delivered 31,000 one week food parcels, 720+ laptops and tablets, and 120+ pieces of furniture and appliances, and are working with 90+ aid agencies across Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston.

They have started to promote access to sports, essential life skills coaching and mentoring, initiatives to improve local environments, enrich lives and strengthen our community.  It’s great to hear that they are ‘hear to stay’ and expanding their services beyond the immediate crisis support during COVID-19!

Older News on the DLAG

A few weeks ago, we reported on DLAG’s work…

Dons Local Action achieved an amazing milestone during National Volunteers’ Week.  A total of 1,000 volunteers have now been enlisted for a community project that keeps on delivering – and finding new ways to help vulnerable people.

Earlier this week there was a message from the Dons Local Action Group Twitter page that proudly stated: “We’ve reached 1,000 registered volunteers!  A huge milestone and perfect for #VolunteersWeek2020.”

DLA, collaborating with other groups, now have over 1000 volunteers across Merton, Kingston & Wandsworth. In the week ending 10 May they had already distributed over 1,800 food packages, supplied five hospitals and three ambulance stations, as well as homeless shelters and care homes!

On top of that, their Keep Kids Connected project has distributed over 300 devices, making sure children without phones, laptops and tablets needed to access online school work are not left behind during lockdown.

Their volunteers continue to support thousands of families in need, delivering countless weekly food parcels. You can find out more about their work as well as how you can get involved or how to register for help if you or someone you know needs it in our Spring Edition of CommunityBytes and find out more about how the DLA group started out in our Post on DLA.
