Merton’s Community Fridge, run by Sustainable Merton, provides practical help and advice to residents through our £3m Cost of Living Fund.
In October 2024, Merton’s Community Fridge saw a record number of 1,061 visits and this year alone, we’ve saved over 52,500 kg of food from going to waste – equivalent to over 127,000 meals!
As the cost of living crisis continues, more people in our community are facing hunger and food insecurity than ever before.
But the future of the Fridge is uncertain. With demand increasing, financial resources are now critically low and funding for the Fridge is not guaranteed after March 2025. Without your support, Merton’s Community Fridge cannot continue to be the lifeline that it has become for so many families throughout the borough.
Please donate to share the gift of food and hope with those who need it most!
– Every £1 you give fights hunger, stops food waste and helps feed 250 families every month!
– With your support, Merton’s Community Fridge can continue to be the largest provider of unconditional food support in the the borough.
- Donating £30 will help feed 30 families for a whole month!
Community Fridge Manager Siobhan Hurley recently explained to Merton Council:
“This time of year can leave people facing tough choices between eating and heating, while others can find themselves with too many festive treats. Merton’s Community Fridge aims to redistribute surplus food from local businesses and food growers, ultimately stopping tonnes of good quality food from going to waste. All food is free and everyone is welcome to visit to collect food and donate good quality, unopened food when the Fridge is open. It’s all about giving and sharing!”
