There is a huge need for care for adults with autism and complex needs. Oscar’s Pathway seeks to provide relief…
Children with autism and complex needs become adults with autism and complex needs. This is something often overlooked and it is clear that adults do not receive sufficient support across the UK.
Oscar’s Pathway is hoping to change that. Oscar’s Pathway LTD is a specialist day provision for young people and adults with a diagnosis of autism and a severe learning disability ages 18-30 in South West London. Our individuals also have complex and significant communication and sensory needs.
OPL was founded by Grace Williams (CEO and provision lead). Grace has a brother called Oscar who is 15 and autistic, non-verbal, with a severe learning disability. Grace has experienced first-hand the lack of appropriate support for brother growing up. Her family are now worried for Oscar’s future and finding him an appropriate support network that can not just meet his needs but allow him to flourish. This gave Grace the passion to become a special needs teacher as well as working for the key worker service in South West London. Grace has completed research in supporting families who have a disabled child and is completing a masters in autism and inclusion. Grace has noticed the support needed for adults once they leave school and decided to set up Oscar’s Pathway.
Oscar’s Pathway aims to support young people with similar needs to her brother as these people often struggle to find appropriate support to allow them to thrive. We offer a range of specialist and autism specific activities led by a team with vast experience and training. All activities are sensory based with a focus on engagement, regulation and independence to allow our individuals to live a happy and fulfilling life. We also have a low arousal environment to support their regulation. These activities include creative sensory activities, cooking and life skills, music therapy, physical development sessions and an understanding team. We also use a range of communication approaches such as intensive interaction, object cues and communication devices. All activities and approaches are personalised to each individual and planned carefully by an experienced and qualified teacher. We monitor progress through setting realistic and needed outcomes to support our individuals’ lives. We will run our provision 5 days a week to support our young people.
Join us in shaping the lives of autistic adults across South West London and giving them the chance to thrive.
