Dementia Action Week is fast approaching!

Dementia Action Week 2024 runs from 13th– 20th May

Wimblecomm members may have already seen some of the events taking place in Merton for Dementia Action Week this May.

Members of Merton Dementia Action Alliance, who represent a range of sectors from health and education to business and charity, will be running information stalls and events across the borough. There are many ways to take part as an individual or as a community group.

Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK, but traditionally it hasn’t been something we talk about. However, through raising awareness and having discussions with those we know, everyone can play a part in reducing stigma and increasing access to timely diagnosis.

Merton as a borough is actively engaged in supporting 1800+ residents living with dementia, their families and carers. There is fantastic support available from the NHS and third sector organisations, as well as dementia inclusive businesses, gyms, and parks. This includes the newly named Merton Memory Hub in the heart of Mitcham, where people can come and talk about any memory concerns they may have, among other services.

Residents can come along to an information stall, or join a talk to become a Dementia Friend. Let’s make Merton a community that is dementia friendly.
