Talkin’ Turkey Theatre, a local theatre company dedicated to creating socially relevant performances, is excited to bring to the stage Animal Farm, The Sequel, an innovative new production that reimagines George Orwell’s iconic story through the lens of contemporary issues. Running at the New Wimbledon Theatre Studio from 31st October to 9th November, this production was selected as one of the three winners of the New Wimbledon Theatre’s Premieres New Writing Contest 2024.
Directed by Ana Isabel González, Animal Farm, The Sequel builds on Orwell’s classic, exploring a post-revolution society where the animals, now three generations beyond their original uprising, must navigate the complexities of Neoanimalism. The story delves into the delicate balance between progress and power as the animals strive to create a thriving society. Yet, the corruption of ideals, greed, environmental degradation and inequality continue to rise, leaving them divided. Neoanimalism, once a promise of freedom and equality, becomes a tool for the ruling pigs to tighten their grip on power.
Touching on global issues like climate change, the rise of disinformation, the erosion of democratic values, and the seduction of technological distractions, this production is not just a continuation of Orwell’s narrative, but a sharp, modern critique of the complexities we face today.

The performance offers an immersive experience, blending multimedia elements, soundscapes, and dynamic lighting to transform the theatre into a living, breathing extension of Animal Farm. Adding to this is the compelling physicality of the production, crafted by movement director Felipe Pacheco (Frantic Assembly practitioner, best known for his role as Gregor Samsa in Frantic Assembly’s latest production of Metamorphosis). Pacheco’s choreography and movement direction bring visceral energy to the performance, making the animals’ struggles and triumphs strikingly tangible and offering a captivating and visually stunning experience for the audience.
A valuable experience not only for entertainment but also for education, the production offers students familiar with Orwell’s Animal Farm as part of their GCSE curriculum the opportunity to engage in literary analysis, comparing Orwell’s original work with this fresh, thought-provoking sequel.
As a theatre company committed to meaningful storytelling, Talkin’ Turkey Theatre seeks to provoke thought and inspire dialogue, taking audiences on a compelling theatrical journey where Orwell’s vision meets the complexities of the 21st century.
