Nestled atop the Wimbledon Quarter, The Rooftop Farm is more than just a space to grow food.
It’s a thriving, sustainable hub where we’re transforming unused urban spaces into flourishing
space that serves our local community. Our goal is to produce fresh, seasonal produce while
creating a circular economy that minimises waste, supports local restaurants, and enriches our
environment. If you’re passionate about sustainable growing and want to be part of a forward-thinking, green revolution, we’d love to hear from you!
About the Role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated gardener to join our small team at The Rooftop
Farm Wimbledon. We need someone based locally for easy access to Wimbledon Quarter. In
this hands-on role, you’ll help cultivate a diverse range of crops, including gourmet mushrooms
grown on recycled coffee grounds, seasonal vegetables and herbs!
You’ll work closely with our farm manager, mushroom grower and volunteers, but the role also
requires lots of independent work, allowing you to take ownership. As the farm continues to
grow, there will be plenty of opportunities to expand your role—whether that’s managing
additional crops, expanding our existing range or indeed job sharing the Farm Manager role.
Hours – 10-20 hours per week, with the potential to grow as the farm expands.
Compensation – £15-£20 per hour dependent on experience
Key Responsibilities:
• Vegetable Growing: Crop planning, propagation, care and general maintenance to
ensure a variety of produce throughout the year on the roof of Wimbledon Quarter.
• Mushroom Growing: Work on our innovative mushroom farm, including preparation and
fruiting tents (no prior experience required—we’ll provide training!).
• Sustainable Practices: Support the development and implementation of sustainable
growing techniques, from composting and integrated pest management to crop rotation
and soil health management.
• Farm Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of farm production, crop health, and
sustainability efforts.
• Fire Station Cafe: Support the availability of farm-fresh produce at the Fire Station Cafe,
ensuring the local community can easily access and enjoy the fruits of our farm.
• Community Engagement: Engage with local cafes, restaurants, and delicatessens to
supply fresh produce and to collect used coffee grounds to incorporate into growing of our mushrooms.
Ideal Candidate:
You should be passionate about gardening and sustainable farming, and ready to help lead the
charge in making urban agriculture thrive. Here’s what we’re looking for:
Essential:
• Live locally to Wimbledon for easy access to the farm.
• A keen and experienced gardener with a genuine passion for growing.
• Flexibility around working hours and days.
• Hands on, roll up the sleeves attitude.
• Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team.
• Happy to conduct tours of the farm for small community groups.
Desirable:
• Knowledge of sustainable horticultural/agricultural practices.
• Experience in low-yield farming in a commercial environment.
• Interest in mushroom growing (training provided).
• Ability to post on social media and engage community.
What We Offer:
• Be part of a forward-thinking, sustainable farming project with exciting growth potential.
• Work in a beautiful and unique environment.
• Opportunities to help expand our sales produce sales channels (including charitable /
food banks)
• A supportive and passionate team that’s committed to making a positive impact on the
local community and environment.
• Discounted food and drinks at the Fire Station Café.
