Sponsor Team Merton Social Prescribing!

Team Merton are taking on Rough Runner for MVSC and Merton Giving because we want to support our community!

Our team members are from Age UK Merton, NHS Merton CCG, Commonside Trust, Merton Voluntary Service Council, Public Health Merton, Good Boost, Merton Safer Neighbourhoods (Met Police) and GLL ‘Better’ leisure services.

We are all taking part in the Rough Runner South London on 5th/6th October 2019.

Our Story

Social prescribing in Merton has gone from strength to strength and we are really pleased with the progress we have made supporting clients, patients, primary health care and the wider community.

Social prescribing identifies patients who have a non-medical problem and offers a non-medical solution. Around 20% of patients who attend primary care have a non-medical cause to their problem. If we can link these people up with support in the community we can make a big difference to their lives.

We have some great results in Merton as a result of social prescribing and we hope to carry on making lasting improvements to people’s wellbeing.

The key to success has been collaborative working across public health, voluntary sector, Merton CCG and other community providers. We have assembled a team from all the different stakeholders to take on the Rough Runner challenge which is taking place in Merton. What a perfect way to support our community!

The slogans ‘don’t medicalise…socialise’ and ‘don’t medicalise…exercise’ originated in Merton. We will be wearing the T-shirts at the event.

How to Get Involved and Support Us

You can sponsor our mighty team on JustGiving: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/social-prescribing-merton-community and if you go on this page you will find a full list of all the participants.

Or you can order a T-shirt and wear it in solidarity, come along to the event in it and cheer us on. T-shirts and other merchandise are available here: www.dontmedicalise.com .

The money we raise will support Merton voluntary organisations to help more people who are referred to them via social prescribing. Amongst other things, it will pay for activities that alleviate loneliness, expert advice to help with benefits and housing issues, training volunteers and growing food locally.
