Merton’s Community Fridge Bringing Local People Together and Reducing Food Waste

Merton Community Fridge, Wimblecomm, Merton Community, Sustainable Merton

Jackie joins 75 stories to discuss the ways that Merton’s Community Fridge brings local businesses, community gardens and individuals together to reduce food waste, and help feed people across Merton. Since Sustainable Merton launched the borough’s first community fridge in May 2020, it has recorded over 3000 visits, and has prevented 20,000kg of food going into landfill.

With a dedicated team of ‘Fridge Friends’ who volunteer to keep things running as smoothly as possible, and so many different people, groups and organisations involved, this initiative also gives local people the opportunity to connect with one another and form new relationships.
