Over the years, Merton Libraries have proved themselves to be more than just physical spaces and have embraced the possibilities of connecting people through books, events, and online activities. This has seen them host a variety of in-person and online events that have engaged the community, provided opportunities for local people, and given us somewhere to host meaningful conversations.
For these reasons, we chose Merton Libraries as the host for our first 75 Stories in action event and collaborated with them to bring people together to discuss topics such as community, mental health, and the importance of sharing our stories.
With our 75 Stories project having a strong focus on celebrating local people, the former Wimbledon Community Centre, and the Merton community, we quickly confirmed Wimbledon Library as our home for the event and were well supported by the entire Merton Libraries team throughout the process.
They liaised with Wimbledon Library to book us into the best suited space for hire, they worked with us to produce some of the marketing material, and they assisted with overall promotion of the event.
On the night, some of the attendees reported that they had discovered our event on a recent trip to the library when our flyer on the noticeboard caught their eye. This was one of many things that confirmed the important role that the Merton Libraries team had played in us delivering a successful event. It also remains one of the reasons why we’d recommend Merton Libraries to anyone hoping to connect with the local community.
